Doctors recommend “wheat meat” owing to its high amino acid content
As a consequence of the “spoiled meat scandal”, an increasing number of people are turning to vegetable-based alternatives. Vegetarian “sausages”, “cutlets” and “goulash” made of wheat protein are becoming ever more popular.
Doctors support this development due to the higher amino acid content. “Many international studies have demonstrated that vegetable protein has lots of advantages owing to its amino acid composition,” explains Dr H.-G. Kugler, expert for amino acids and head of the Diagnostisches Centrum für Mineralanalytik und Spektroskopie (Diagnostic centre for mineral analytics and spectroscopy). Vegetable proteins lower the cholesterol level and can thus make an important contribution to reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases. In the past, animal protein was mistakenly attributed with highly positive effects. This was due to obsolete animal experiment models, which as we now know, cannot be transferred to humans. “Animal products are associated with serious negative effects on our health. They contain mostly saturated fatty acids that increase cholesterol levels, thus promoting insulin resistance and diabetes,”continues Dr Kugler.
